Drama, Romance, and Way Too Much Gossip

 Bridgerton

For as long as I can remember, I always said I would never watch Bridgerton. It looked like one of those stupid shows that would bore me out of my mind. However, I did start seeing things on social media about the show, and every time I saw something about the show it was extremely positive. It tempted me, but I never started it. When my roommate Avery said that she wanted to watch it, I finally decided to give it a chance and see what all the hype was about.

The show basically follows different families as they try to navigate relationships and social pressure, and each season focuses on a different couple. There’s a lot of drama, secrets, and obviously romance, but it’s done in a way that keeps you wanting to watch the next episode. It’s also just really pretty to watch. The outfits, the colors, the settings- everything looks super put together and aesthetic. It all really surprised me, and I was genuinely unable to peel my eyes away from the screen.

If I had to say something negative, I would say some of the storylines feel a little unrealistic or overly dramatic, but I think that’s kind of the point. It’s meant to be entertaining, not super realistic. For example, I feel as though the drama sometimes got to the point of such exaggeration that I literally found myself getting angry at the characters because they were overcomplicating things for themselves.

Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE to rewatch my favorite shows. No matter how many seasons or episodes there are, if I like a show a lot it will be getting rewatched at least a couple of times. Bridgerton, sadly, would not make the cut for a rewatch. I liked it a lot, but it feels like one of the shows where I saw it, liked it, and can now move on. I prefer shows that I obsess over and literally cannot get enough of. I am not saying Bridgerton was bad, but it was just not on the level of some of my other favorites.

Overall, I would rate this show a 6.5/10. It definitely surprised me with how much I liked it and I would recommend it, but I do not think it was good enough to get a higher rating
