You’d Never Guess It’s His First Role
Adolescence
This series had a very interesting concept that I had never seen before- each episode was shot in one take. The raw emotion that was shown, the cinematography, the perfection of it all, was brilliant. I really loved this show because of the way that it truly made me feel something. I have not watched a show in a while, or maybe ever, that really hit me like this one did. It felt scarily real and personal, even though I have not gone through something like what happened in the show. It is a hard feeling to explain, but I really loved watching something like this.
The short series centered around the murder of one of one of Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper)'s classmates. Jamie was arrested for the murder without a whole lot of proof. We get to see how this situation affects each character and seeing it all in one take offers a new viewing perspective.
Owen Cooper played one of the main characters at just fifteen years old and it was his first acting role ever. The fact that he was able to act that well, especially considering that the episodes were all shot in one take, was crazy. Even remembering all those lines would be hard for a regular actor, but Owen Cooper delivered an exceptional performance. All of the acting from every character was exceptional, for that matter. It truly felt like they were not acting and that the show was just real life at multiple points.
This is not a show that I would look to rewatch, at least not anytime soon, but that is not necessarily a bad thing in this case. It was such a well-made and powerful series to experience, and I think that it stuck with me so much to the point where I do not feel the need to rewatch it. I do not need to consume every part of the show by watching it over and over and over again because one time was enough to have a huge effect on me.
This series wowed me; the acting was by far the best part. Solid 9/10.
